These Hogue Rubber grips install easily w/o any additional modifications , are solid, and after firing a couple of hundred .357 Magnum my hand and wrist felt just fine.

I have never had a problem adapting to the rubber finger grove grips on my 686's. For wood grips "cokes" are my preference for shooting.

I do have a 686 round butt with Ahrend's grips on it. They really are quality grips and no fitting was required. This is true of each of the 5 or 6 sets I've purchased so far.
